Carefully assess the tone of the lips and try to make it brighter or softer depending on the desired effect. Applying a small amount of colour to the mucous membrane and waiting for it to dry helps with assessment of the contrast and harmony and whether the colour may be too different from the desired final effect. The technique should also be considered and assessed.
